The wall, 8 meters high and 1000 kilometers long, snakes around and infringes deep into Palestine. It divides and cuts off families and communities. Anything in its path is bulldozed, razed to the ground and eventually confiscated as Israeli property and territory.

I am not one to stay up late at night for comic relief. Rather it benefits me more to ease into a night of blissful rest after reflecting on my actions of the day and showing gratitude and asking forgiveness of my sustainer. Surely, there are many who would rather stay up and seek some sort of escape from the drudgery of the daily toil through the medium of the late night shows. My daily duties do not allow for wasting of time. It is too precious. As such, I cannot claim to have seen the video footages of either the “ducking for cover under a hail of sniper gun fire” or of Hillary’s appearance on the Jay Leno show last evening.
Rein in the media and you rule the world. Control and filter what the masses hear and see and you control their minds. Throughout time immemorial the manifestation of real power has always been in the hands of those who were capable of manipulating the media whether it be by forceful means or through the gift of speech.
In this maddening world that we live in, it is not too difficult to find instances where popular usage of a transmuted or bastardized name endures the test of time eventually replacing the original name and absconding with the identity and the grandeur of accomplishments as befits the origin. The blood of over 3500 Palestinian refugees from Sabra and Shatilla still drip from his hands. An indictment hangs over his head for crimes against humanity. The putrid stench of death lingers on, permeating the Qana air, a grisly reminder of a massacre perpetrated against a displaced people. (more…)
It was about two hours into the trip from Freeport to Miami and dinner was being served. On deck it was a spectacular sight to behold, the sun had already set amid the clouds in the horizon and the darkness of nightfall was becoming more prominent. Several days ago, George Bush ordered the toughening of sanctions against Cuba. This embargo implemented in 1962 under the JFK administration has failed to break the will of the Cuban people. Rather it has strengthened their resolve and although the Cubans have eked out a living over the past four decades, the embargo has lost its intent and purpose. The continuing hard line taken by Bush mirrors the actions of past administrations. (more…)
Recorded history tells us that the growth and development of the human species was borne by the suffering of millions who were forced into bondage and slavery. In disputes and wars enslaving the vanquished was the ultimate humiliation of the enemy. Generations upon generations were born and bred into it. They ultimately died serving their masters. No civilization, race, nation, clan or tribe is free from the scourges of this abhorrent act that still exists in some form or the other. (more…)
Many words of sorrow are uttered and written. And many tears are shed. In this outpouring of feelings in the aftermath of the tragically horrible events of Sept 11th, the world as we know it is united with America in their moment of sorrow. In this time of collective grief, engulfed in a sea of human emotions, people of all walks of life, nationalities, colour, creed and religion join together in mourning the loss of innocent lives. It’s as if everyone has been personally affected by the events of that day. It is as if everyone has lost a very dear and close relation. (more…)
Into the fourth week of a devastating bombardment of Afghanistan, the US campaign against terrorism now appears to have been poorly misguided and misdirected. In the aftermath of the worst terrorist actions on continental USA, this nation seething in anger had cause for retaliation; And retaliated they did. (more…)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
On Youm ul Jumu’ah, December 26th, rising up from slumber to offer the Fajr Salaah, Muslims in Toronto were greeted with news of devastation. Initial reports on the radio and television told of a massive earthquake that had wreaked destruction upon the ancient City of Bam, Iran. Details were sketchy and the toll was initially placed at 3000 dead with thousands more injured. (more…)
Her eyes tell a story of long restless nights, a life of worries and hardships punctuated by periods of grief and despair. They have now become cloudy, yet they betray her many private lamentations. The times spent in solitude, praying to her Lord, seeking His guidance and assistance. (more…)
